More about my work

Research

My research work is in media sociology. I examine both the cultural use of media as well as the ways in which society uses media to construct and maintain itself. My research areas are in citizen journalism, web memetics, social media, and social capital.

Teaching

I teach theoretical and skills courses in journalism and media. I believe that a good teaching agenda builds on a professor's research agenda so that students learn to integrate theory and practice.

Blog

I blog occasionally on my research and teaching. I also discuss issues in the news that are of interest to my field. Please feel free to stop in, read and comment. You also can follow me on Twitter, where I curate the latest news in my field.

In The News

A feed of stories that mention or quote me talking about my areas of expertise. I am available to speak about my expertise in digital media, social media, mobile communication, and the impact of these tools on society.
